The Flag Institute is the United Kingdom’s national flag charity and the world’s largest vexillological organisation. Founded in 1971, it is dedicated to the study, preservation and celebration of flags, both historic and contemporary. Through its work, the Institute promotes greater public understanding of flags and their importance in culture, identity and heritage.
The Institute maintains the UK’s largest specialist library of flag-related material, publishes the acclaimed Flagmaster journal, and advises government, institutions and communities on flag design and usage. Its activities include conferences, research projects, exhibitions and outreach, providing a platform for experts and enthusiasts alike. With members across the globe, the Flag Institute plays a leading role in shaping international conversations about flags, ensuring their stories continue to inspire and connect people worldwide.
